Ion’s Story

Artist Ion Balaurea has woven with SAORI Arts NYC and AHRC NYC for two years, resulting in an exhibition including his work at the Baychester Public Library. He shared moving words at the reception:

“Yarn crafting is so important to me. I can get lost in it metaphorically, but also physically--you should see my room.

Most importantly yarn reminds me of some of the challenges all of us are facing right now.

To use it as a metaphor: Yarn and life can be messy, but we can get through slowly by finding the end pieces and untangling it.”

Ion’s fiber skills can be seen on display not just at the library, but also at MoMA’s exhibit How Are You? on view through March 31st 2022.
